The City of Fayetteville was incorporated on December 20, 1823.  We are located in Fayette County in the north central section of Georgia, approximately 20 miles south of Atlanta.

Fayetteville has been designated Georgia's 37th Main Street City by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

From 1984 to 1994, Fayette County was the fifth fastest growing county in the U.S.

Fayetteville is governed by a Mayor, five elected City Council members, and a City Manager.
